The last thing in this module on Making Adjustments is your macro perspective. Up to this point, we have mainly been focusing on getting to the 15-pound weight loss mark. But just as the best runners look beyond the finish line, I want you to do the same. This is a significant adjustment to make in your approach because if you do not do so, reaching the end of the road of this journey can leave you without direction. Being without long-term vision was likely one of the main contributors that allowed you to pack on the extra 15 pounds. So now is the time to start thinking about the next step for you after you reach your goal. This will be the focus of today's lesson.

Mindset: Look Beyond in Your Mindset

Your mindset is the foundation for the changes you have made up to this point and the ones you will continue to make. By design, the foundation of this program is changing the way you think. The way you have thought over the last few months, years, or even decades has led to your need to do this program. Maybe this was the first time you had any focus on your mindset when addressing your weight loss or fitness needs. This is an area you want to prioritize in your life in the future. We tend to think that we don't need to spend time working on our thought life, but this couldn't be further from the truth. Just as you set the goal to lose 15 pounds with this program, also set goals for changing your mindset. Do you need to be more patient, positive, and peaceful,...? Think beyond the next three weeks about what changes you would like to make in your thinking. Set goals for books that you want to read, audio programs you want to listen to, or even seminars you'd like to attend.

Lifestyle: Look Beyond Your Current Lifestyle

When people remodel one part of their home, it often leads to other home improvements. It may start as a kitchen remodel and then a bathroom remodel. After doing some work on the inside, they may begin working on the outside. It is no different with us as people. We change our health, fitness, and appearance, leading to other lifestyle changes. I discussed this in a previous lesson. But let's revisit it. What lifestyle changes would you like to make beyond this eight-week program? This isn't just about fitness. Think in terms of every aspect of your life. Do a mental walk-through of an entire day, week, month, and year considering what could be different as a result of you losing this weight. Take some time and let your imagination run free. Write down any ideas that inspire you. Start planning, researching, and preparing to take action.

Nutrition: Look Beyond in Your Diet

Now that you have five weeks under your belt to change how you think about planning and making your diet choices. Maybe you have been inspired to make some longer-term changes. You may be thinking about trying a plant-based lifestyle. Perhaps, you may be thinking about having a more targeted approach to your diet by getting some blood testing done in setting some goals to change your blood panels to address some genetic predispositions you may have. Maybe you have a past health issue that you want to prevent recurring. Making some wholesale changes to your diet could be a significant contributor to preventing any future recurrence. Whatever longer-term shifts you may have in mind, begin doing a little research and preparation over the next three weeks to make that happen.

Exercise: Look Beyond in Your Training

At this stage in your exercise program, your focus has been on doing exercises to help you lose weight. But as you're getting closer to your goal, your mind may begin to wander toward a little more advanced activity. For example, now that you are getting a bit more fit, running a 5K or a marathon might appeal to you. Bike road racing might be your thing. Or maybe now that you know that you're going to lose the 15 pounds, you may be targeting the next 25 pounds. Or perhaps you don't feel like you need to lose any more weight but want to start putting on more muscle now that the extra 15 pounds are gone. In these examples, you would like to begin transitioning toward doing exercises that will prepare you for these endeavors. Whatever the case may be, start at least thinking about transitioning your current exercise routine toward your "next-level goals."
